Joe was born and raised in Texas. He spent three years in North Carolina while assigned to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune before moving to the Washington, DC area in 2009. He was trained as a Human Resources Assistant during his military service.
At the end of his active military service, Joe worked briefly for Virginia's Disability Determination Services Northern Regional Office as a Unit Technician and later the Central Intelligence Agency in various support roles. He joined the US Department of State in 2019 as a Foreign Service Officer and completed his first posting at the US Embassy in London.
In 2019, Joe appeared on the cover of Equal Opportunity magazine's special veterans edition, which highlighted the success of veterans and how their military background prepared them to transition into a variety of civilian careers. The article is available to read here.
